The battle between people who support gun control measures and those who feel that this is infringing on an individual’s rights has been going on for a long time. In the meantime, people including high-school kids have been dying in deadly shootouts that have taken place all across America in the last few decades. While the debate is a necessary one and both sides will not yield to the other there can be no disagreement about one thing – A gun in the hands of a wrong person or persons is nothing less than a cold-blooded tragedy waiting to happen. What’s true is that it has been happening. Now the President of the United States of America Joe Biden has chosen a man to spearhead the gun control effort who has impeccable credentials. His name is David Chipman and he has a wealth of work experience in this field. Here are a few details from David Chipman’s wiki.
Not a Moment Too Soon

Joe Biden has chosen David Chipman as his nominee to head the important organization the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives [ATF]. If the nomination goes through David Chipman will become the next director of the ATF. It’s a move that is coming not a moment too soon. After all, the ATF has been without a permanent director at its helm since 2015. Biden admitted it as much when he said “I don’t need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common-sense steps that will save lives in the future.” Biden’s executive orders on gun control are in place from April 8, 2021.
Who is David Chipman?
Chipman has already worked for the ATF for over 25 years and his possible return to his old agency is being viewed with lots of enthusiasm by the advocates of gun control. Chipman used to be a special agent at the ATF and among his many accomplishments are his work on preventing the supply of guns to New York City, serving in the SWAT version of the ATF, being in charge of the ATF’s Firearms Programs, and deciding on firearms policy. Chipman, a native of Detroit, Michigan, obtained an undergraduate degree from American University and later took a master’s degree in management from John Hopkins University.
A Specialist on Guns & Firearms
During his time in the ATF Chipman specialized in crime reduction strategy, explosives, ghost guns, law enforcement, the gun industry, and assault weapons. He left the ATF in 2012 and went to work for Everytown for Gun Safety, where he was a senior adviser and was often consulted by lawmakers working on gun control legislation. He then worked as a senior vice president at Public Safety Solutions for three years before becoming the senior policy adviser for Congresswoman Gabby Giffords in 2016.
Fighting the Glut of “Ghost Guns”
Not much is known about David Chipman’s family and he has always kept his personal life out of the news and away from the media all his life. While his birth date is not a matter of public record his age is believed to be around 55 years old. His first priority if appointed as Biden’s ATF director is to crack down on “ghost guns.” These are guns that can be assembled within as little as 30 minutes after buying the constituent parts online. They are not legally registered and don’t have serial numbers so they cannot be tracked officially.
Waco Tragedy Claims Come Back to Haunt
All is not rosy for Chipman though. His claims made regarding the Waco siege that took place in 1993 at Waco, Texas, have come back to haunt him. Chipman had claimed in a post on Reddit that members of the Branch Davidian cult had shot down two government helicopters when the siege was going on using .50-caliber Barrett rifles. He has been accused of making this supposed dubious claim for pushing harder on gun control that many people and lawmakers in America have been resisting. Chipman had specifically called for the “ban on future production and sale to civilians of assault rifles.”
American Lives Must be Saved
So it seems that the battle lines are being drawn again. Biden has nominated a hawk for gun control to the post of the ATF and people who oppose gun control are not going to take this lightly. In the meantime, the body count from gunshots is rising even as these deliberations go on. Joe Biden has a responsibility towards keeping Americans safe in the country and his views on gun control will largely determine it. His pick David Chipman if selected will have to lead the ATF into a new war against illegal guns and prevent more American lives from falling into this scourge. David Chipman has a tough time ahead.
