As a teenager, she attended Upper Moreland High School where she was something of a prankster, a bit rebellious who enjoyed an active social life. She also had a serious and career-oriented mindset which is why she started working at the age of 15. One of her jobs was waitressing and she liked to communicate with people. Taking English class was her favorite thing and she studied hard and passed out in 1969. She enrolled in Brandywine Junior College where she spent only one semester before joining the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware. In 1975 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English while simultaneously having a stint as a model.

Jill Biden is currently a professor of English at the Northern Virginia Community College and is much respected for being the first wife of a vice president or president to be working for a salary during her husband’s tenure. She has been working in this capacity since 2009. Before this, from 1993 to 2008 she was a writing instructor and a teacher in English at the Delaware Technical & Community College where she positively influenced the lives of scores of students who looked up to her. She has worked her way up as a teacher right from the beginning of her career which started when she joined as a substitute teacher in the Wilmington area school system. She then taught English to high school students full time at the St. Mark’s High School in the same area Wilmington.
A Highly Conscientious Teacher
Then she married Joe Biden who was then working in the Senate office and it was the second marriage for both of them. Post marriage Jill Biden continued teaching and took a master’s degree from the West Chester State College and received a Master of Education certification as well. Post her first pregnancy she returned to work where she taught English, was a reading specialist, and also taught history to emotionally disabled students. In the 1980s she taught at the Rockford Centre psychiatric hospital for five years in their adolescent program. Not content with her qualifications she took a second graduate degree from Villanova University this time a Master of Arts in English.

For three years Jill Biden taught at Claymont High School and then in the early 1990s she taught English at the Brandywine High School in her home area of Wilmington. The one consistent thing in all her thirteen years of teaching at public high schools was that nearly all her students remember her as a passionate and caring teacher. Not just that later Jill Biden founded an organization named Book Buddies which provides and gifts books to kids from low-income families. She has also taken big steps in arranging for education for poor children who need it more than anybody else.
