Doubling Down with the Derricos is an American reality TV show that airs on the TLC channel every Tuesday at 10:00 pm. This show premiered on TLC on August 11, 2020, and features an African-American family and their children and chronicles their daily struggles to be together and function as a family. The show started with the husband-wife pair of Deon Derrico and Karen Derrico and their then-11 children. Karen Derrico was pregnant at that time in August 2020. Deon Derrico is a real estate investor and he and his homemaker wife Karen live with their family in Las Vegas, Texas. The two met at a church in Detroit, Michigan, in 2002 and sparks flew. They got married soon and having a large family was always on the cards as Karen came from a large family herself. The quaint thing is that despite all these huge responsibilities Deon and Karen still have a passion for dancing and make time to indulge in it once in a while.

Deon and Karen got married in 2005 and a year later had their first child, a daughter they named Darian in 2006. Then things were bad for a while as Karen suffered two miscarriages but things looked up after five years when Karen gave birth to their second child, a son named Derrick in 2011. Then came the twin boys Dallas and Denver and then in 2013 the incredible happened. If the Derricos wanted a large family then God was more than willing to oblige. In 2013 Karen Derricos gave birth to quintuplets and that made the family famous all over the state. The doctors called the birth of the quintuplets a medical marvel. These five kids were named Deniko, Deonee, Dariz, Daician, and Daiten and the family was now the talking point everywhere. The Derricos also adopted a son named Derron aged 28 years but relations between him and the Derricos have been very strained for a while.

Then the Derricos wanted more children and Karen gave birth to triplets but sadly one of the three babies named Carter died shortly after birth. The surviving two babies were named Diez and Dior are commonly referred to as “the triplins.” In July 2019 Karen gave birth to a set of triplets again and these babies were given the names Dawsyn, De’Aren, and Dyver and the family count chugged forward happily. Dawsyn was born with a hole in her heart but underwent surgery and as of January 2020 is completely healed. No wonder she has been nicknamed “Awesome Dawsyn” by people who love her. So how many kids do the Derricos have? In all the Derricos have 14 kids and if the past is any indication the count may still go up! The fun thing about this is that all the Derricos kids have names which begin with the letter “D” and the Derricos are proud that they were all born naturally without any IVF. Karen is particularly happy that most of the babies were breastfed in their infancy. The Derricos are running up grocery bills of $3,500 every month but they seem to be very happy with their state of affairs. Whoever said “less is more” should rethink this motherhood!
